Ferrari 575GTZ (Zagato)

In 2006 Ferrari commissioned Italian styling firm Zagato to produce a dramatically re-styled one-off model of their flagship at the time, the V12 575M Maranello, for an esteemed customer in Japan.

The body was completely redesigned to evoke the 250GTZ, a handful of Ferrari 250s modified by Zagato in the 1950s, pictured bottom. It also seemed to set Ferrari's new design principle for their following GT cars, the 599 and smaller 612 Scaglietti.

Ferrari Testarossa Spider

Ferrari commissioned only one convertible 'Spider' Testarossa as a gift for the chairman of Fiat at the time. It was also a design exercise to see if the model would be viable, but they decided it wasn't due to structural limitation. Instead, a handful of unofficial versions of the same specification were made to order by Pininfarina.

Ferrari 348 Long Wheelbase Test Car

The factory built this 348 GTB with a new extended tail section and the rear wheels moved further aft to lengthen the wheelbase by about 10 inches. The room was made at the back to allow Ferrari to test larger, V12 engines in the car and there is no doubt that this would make it the coolest 348 evoluzione of them all.

According to E40racer.be, the 348LWB was used as a test-bed for the Tipo F140B engine that Ferrari developed specifically for the Enzo in the early 2000s, from the new V12 engine they shared with Maserati, although it is unclear why they would choose such an outdated vehicle as the 348 to test it in. Could it be that it was more likely used to test the older Formula 1 Dino V12 engine developed for the F50 in the 90s? It also appears to have the protruding quad round rear lights from the F355, although I'd imagine this predates it, so a very interesting vehicle indeed. I will endeavor to find out more!

** Single line entry in the 348 Wikipedia page - "This vehicle also served as a test mule for the Ferrari Enzo. Three of these were made", so maybe E40racer could be correct. I'd love to see more pictures and specs of these cars.

Ferrari 250GTO 'Breadvan'

Ferrari denied a 250GTO to some of his defected employees so they developed the 'Breadvan' GTO from a slightly older 250s SWB Competizione to rival the works team. Shorter and lighter, it was in many ways better than the real GTO and Ferrari Classiche have since given the car an 'Attestazione' of significance to their heritage, without being their design.
